"If you were doing 40mph down the street in a giant beluga whale, you probably would not take your hands off the wheel, you probably wouldn't be reaching for your cell phone, and you probably would not be cranking music as loud as possible," says one of the winners of a yearly contest by Toyota and Discovery Education.

The problem high school sophomores Matthew Post and John Caporaletti see is their peers doing exactly that when they drive -- texting, talking, and otherwise paying less than full attention to the road.

Perhaps the problem is perspective. Most drivers don't realize the car they are driving, and the vehicles on the road around them, weigh as much as a 2-ton beluga.

That's the key to their distracted driving PSA video, "For the Whales," which serves as a clever reminder of just how dangerous a car really is. Discovery and Toyota both agreed, and now the cetacean-based message will be re-filmed with a professional television crew to broadcast on a variety of Discovery networks.

At Kings Toyota, we offer a large selection of new cars, trucks, and SUVs in Cincinnati with available safety features like the Pre-Collision System and Lane Departure Alert, which act as a second set of eyes on the "whales" around you.
