The tradition of lighting fireworks on the 4th of July to celebrate America's Independence Day dates back to 1777. However, due to current safety and health restrictions, the usual events surrounding this holiday have been scaled back. If you're looking to watch 4th of July fireworks anywhere near the Cincinnati, Ohio, area, make sure you check out these communities. 

Blanchester

Where to watch July 4th fireworks in Cincinnati 2021

In Blanchester, you can participate in two days of fun activities called Red, White, and Blanchester Blue that celebrate Independence Day. At 11 a.m. on July 3, head to the area near Blanchester High School at 953 Cherry St. and watch a parade. Stick around and check out vendor booths, rides, and inflatables. Local bands also perform on both days. The two-day event culminates with fireworks at dusk on July 4 from the grounds of the high school.

Blue Ash

After the city of Blue Ash canceled the region's largest 4th of July celebration last year, it is organizing a return for 2021, but only with a fireworks display. Known as Red, White, and Blue Ash, this event will have fireworks launched from Summit Park at 4335 Glendale Milford Road at dusk. 

Colerain

Check out the Rumpke/Colerain 4th of July Spectacular display of fireworks on July 3. They take place by Northgate Mall at 9501 Colerain Ave., with free admission, parking, and shuttles to watch the colorful display. It's important to note that there is no on-site parking available, so you must take a shuttle. Shuttle parking is available at Northgate Mall and Colerain Middle School. 

Fairfield

Just like last year, the city of Fairfield has opted to still hold its fireworks display but isn't offering any other planned events such as food trucks or live music. Its display will be higher and easier to view throughout the city. The fireworks will go off at 10 p.m. on July 3 at Harbin Park at 1300 Hunter Road, and you can view them throughout the area.

Harrison

Known as the 4th of July Celebration, this day-long event features a parade and fireworks display. The parade kicks off at 4 p.m. through the middle of town, while the fireworks display begins at dusk. You can view the fireworks from the community center parking lot at 300 George St. as well as parking lots found in surrounding businesses.

Indian Hill

In previous years, Indian Hill has hosted a festival and parade. However, just like 2020, the village has opted to postpone both events for another year. You can still visit the area to watch fireworks, though. On July 4 at 9:45 p.m., the village will set off fireworks from Stephan Field at 625 Drake Road. The fireworks will be displayed from a higher vantage point, so people can see them from more homes.

Kings Island

If you're a season pass holder to Kings Island Amusement Park, you can attend a pass holder's-only event at 6300 Kings Island Drive. Make reservations to enjoy a fireworks display on July 4 at 10 p.m. at the amusement park. Make sure you abide by social distance guidelines inside the park.

Liberty Township

Known as Light Up Liberty, this alcohol-free community celebration takes place in Liberty Township at 6101 Princeton Glendale Road in Hamilton. This family-friendly event occurs on July 4, and it features plenty of activities. Check out the Family Fun Zone, which has numerous carnival rides and games. If you're interested in listening to some live music suitable for all ages, head over to the main stage. When your stomach starts growling, stop at one of the local food trucks for a snack, meal, or dessert. Don't forget to stick around as the celebration ends with fireworks at 10 p.m.

Loveland

Although the city of Loveland canceled its parade, concert, and kids play area, it has partnered with nearby Symmes Township to host a fireworks show that begins at 10 p.m. The fireworks are set off from Philips Park at 11608 Rich Road, but you can view the show from the surrounding area.

South Lebanon

Hosted by the South Lebanon Historical Society, the South Lebanon Ohio Fireworks Festival takes place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 4 at 210 High St. Stop by and listen to live music and enjoy food from Any Style Hot Dog & Catering LLC. Fireworks occur at dusk.

Sycamore

Join the town of Sycamore in celebrating the country's Independence and find something fun for the entire family to enjoy. Called Red, White, and Booms!, the day-long event takes place at the Clete McDonald Sports Complex in Cincinnati. From 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., you can watch a demonstration from the Sons of the American Revolution. The fireworks begin at 10 p.m.  

Wyoming

Spend the entire day in Wyoming starting with its annual parade that kicks off at 10 a.m. This year's theme is "Step Up Your Parade Game." Participants decorate their vehicles with a chance to win a pool party at the Wyoming Family Aquatic Center. The parade will have two winners, including a local business and a neighborhood. One change from this year's parade is that participants are asked to not throw candy. The route begins at Oak Avenue, west of Wyoming Avenue. Hang out until 9:45 p.m. when fireworks are launched from Oak Park at 878 Oak Ave.

Independence, Kentucky

Go across the state border to Kentucky to experience Independence's 4th of July celebration. The festival begins on July 3 with The Independence Business Association's Cars and Pipes Car Show followed by a parade that begins at Summit View Middle School and heads to Memorial Park. Stick around Memorial Park at 2003 Jackwoods Pkwy. to enjoy live music as well as food and drinks. If you're 21 and over, you can enjoy adult beverages at the Festival Beer Garden found in the amphitheater. End the day with a fireworks display.
